Kelly Stewart

Kelly Stewart Profile Page Header Image

Born in Sydney, Australia, Kelly gained a BA Hons in Illustration. After visiting Europe and falling in love with European culture and architecture, Kelly visited Edinburgh in 2000 and has never left! Having a passion for drawing traditional architecture, Edinburgh is a constant source of inspiration with its abundance of Gothic, Victorian and Georgian architecture.

Kelly joined Edinburgh Printmakers Workshop in 2001 since then has worked predominantly with the screenprint process which offers her endless possibilities of combining drawings, mark making, handwritten text and photography. Her limited edition prints can have up to 30 individual layers which are built up like a painting.

Kelly also works with watercolour, pastel, pencil and collage to create mixed media works, in a range of subjects including animals, boats and landscapes which ‘don’t need to be structurally accurate like architecture, so it enables me to draw more expressive lines which I sometimes crave.’

Voted the UK Printmaker of the Year by Printfest UK in 2012, Kelly has exhibited at the RSA in Edinburgh as well as the RGI in Glasgow, winning the ‘City of Glasgow’ prize.

‘When I am in the studio, there’s no place I’d rather be’.
