Alex Ebdon

An abstract geometric painting featuring blocks of blue, orange, brown, grey, and white with visible textured brushstrokes.

A smiling man with a beard and short hair, wearing a light blue denim shirt, standing in front of a colorful abstract painting. The painting features a mix of yellow, pink, green, blue, and orange tones.
Alex is a landscape painter who expresses his love for the British landscape through different levels of abstraction. He is inspired by the way that what he calls ‘moments of magic’ can appear in a landscape from even the humblest of beginnings. Now based in London, Alex grew up in North Lancashire and his work calls upon the places he experienced in his youth – Britain’s coasts, estuaries, fields and fells. We each have a close connection to the places we have lived and they become such a formative influence on who we are. It is this connection that Alex looks to explore in his paintings.

His works are not tied to any particular places, rather they are left open to interpretation to allow the viewer to find their own places, times and memories within them.

Alex works in acrylics, using a variety of techniques to build composition. He lets his paintings find their own way, the composition developing organically through the way that passages of paint build upon the canvas surface. He also works in oils for smaller pieces, painted alla prima with palette knife to capture a freshness and transience that is so much a part of landscape.
