   Richmond Palace was built by Henry VII in 1501 and became a favourite Tudor residence of Elizabeth I. This hidden gem lies close to the Thames, tucked away behind the main street. Most of the palace has disappeared, leaving only the Gate House - the sole surviving Tudor brick structure on Old Palace Yard. Towering pine trees now guard the entrance through which royalty, dignitaries and horsemen would once have passed.
