English musician, singer, songwriter and actor Sting was frontman, songwriter and bassist for The Police from 1977 to ‘86.
In his early career, he played jazz with the Phoenix Jazzmen, where he got his nickname rom his habit of wearing a black and yellow jumper with hooped stripes. Sting supports his hometown Newcastle United football club, who have a black and white strip. This explains my use of black, yellow and white in the background of my image of Sting, based on a behind the scenes photo by rock photographer Solomon N’Jie.
Sol says, “Stella has really captured the Sting ‘stare’ which came from his reluctance to be photographed when he arrived backstage at his own gig. Sting has always been stylish dresser and his flamboyant side comes shining through in this painting.”
