Cannon Street Station, London by David Richardson

£260.00

A plein air pencil and watercolour painting
I drew this iconic view from London Bridge, looking across the Thames on a windy late summer’s day. While visiting Borough Market, I spotted this wonderful composition, with the twin towers of London Bridge railway station perfectly framing the magnificent dome of St Paul’s Cathedral.
Built in 1866, the station serves south-east England and suffered extensive bombing during the Second World War. Since its restoration, a modern office building has been incorporated between its two historic towers.
Below, boats travel along the Thames, passing beneath the railway bridge — a fascinating meeting of two of London’s oldest forms of transport, rail and river. A timeless view of London, where history and modern life meet.
