As with all the paintings in the Isolation series, this tile painting Blue on Blue saw life during the recent lockdown. I chose the colour blue to suit the mood of the time and named the work after a song title as listening to music while working became essential. Similarly, the choice of still life rather than a figure as the subject represented better the separation from family and friends.
The simplified flowers in the little jug indicate safeness and security, almost contentment, but the sun still shines outside in the ‘other world’, still fraught with danger. Using deep blues and greens, with mere touches of colour I am trying to create a feeling in this painting of stillness, time transfixed, standing still, awaiting release from confinement.
