Graffiti Art Peckham, London by David Richardson

A plein air pencil, ink and watercolour painting

I was keen to discover more examples of graffiti in other parts of London and found a fantastic mix of styles and subjects in Peckham, my old stomping ground.
   I positioned myself to capture the colourful rainbow and Spitfire on one side, balanced by the giant rodent-like creature on the right, with a wealth of other street art filling the space in between. The road receding into the distance at the centre of the composition creates a strong sense of perspective, drawing the eye into the picture.
   It turned out to be a thoroughly pleasant day, with passers-by stopping to chat and offer compliments on my work. The local deli was even kind enough to offer me a sandwich and coffee!
   Places that are sometimes unfairly assumed to be rough can often turn out to be the friendliest, with a real sense of community and warmth.
