Tess Stone

Having graduated from Camberwell School of Art specialising in Illustration. I undertook several commissions for publishing, editorial, and packaging companies both here and in the USA.

Much of my work is inspired by travel, food, and food ingredients, although I use watercolour as a base, I also like to explore collage and mixed media. Other areas of inspiration are insects, caterpillars, and most things creepy crawly.

Currently, I am exploring printmaking subjects this time closer to home, my heritage in Suffolk where I was born and raised. I have a 'fishy background' my uncle and cousins were offshore fishermen and my grandfather was the bursar at Lowestoft in its herring industry hay day.

My work again uses mixed media printmaking techniques, including lino cutting, photolithography, collagraph, and a rag to evoke the depth of water and layers of images including nets, fish, fisherman's huts, and the shipping forecast to give a feel of harbors, sea, and coast. All that is missing are the seagulls..... more to come.
