Washington, a US airman stationed in East Anglia, gained fame from London nightclub performances. In 1965, Pete Gage hired him as the singer for his new band. Washington released five albums with the Ram Jam Band 1966-69. He's immortalised in Dexy's Midnight Runners' hit "Geno".
