April - Clivia

£300.00

In April - and sometimes earlier - the Clivia beneath the window of my studio, welcome the spring sunshine with a fabulous display of vivid orange flowers.   The flowers emerge through the dark green foliage as tiny white buds bound tightly to each chunky stalk.  As many as 20 orange to pale yellow fluted flowers will grow on each stalk and this display will be repeated during a warm summer.

The Clivia originated in Africa  and are sometimes called Natal or Bush Lily.  Mine have all come from one plant, given to me by my boyfriend's grandmother over 40 years ago.  The relationship faltered but the Clivia have thrived!

This is an original inkpainting, using Japanese mineral colours and black Sumi ink.  It is painted on fine 'Washi' paper made from Mulberry using traditional Asian brushes, float mounted and framed in natural Ash. The red chop stamped beneath the signature means Still & Quiet.

Framed size: 42cm x 54cm.

Image size: 29.5cm x 42 cm

Certificate of authenticity is supplied with this work.
