Lyceum Theatre, Strand, London by David Richardson

£400.00

A plein air pencil, ink and watercolour painting
The Grade II listed Lyceum Theatre, just off the Strand, has a colourful history, from waxworks and circus acts to a music venue hosting The Who, Queen and Bob Marley. Following a £15 million restoration in 1996, it returned to theatrical use and has been home to The Lion King since 1999.
I sat opposite the theatre and the neighbouring Wellington pub, as people and cyclists rushed past. Its grand, columned entrance stood proudly against the sky, which had turned a powerful, deep blue, creating a striking contrast that made it a wonderful subject to paint.
