Embroidery: H 27cm; W 21cm.
Frame: H 43cm; W 37cm.'How to capture an elephant in textile embroidery?'
A project I'd wanted to do for many years after visiting a Wild Life Art exhibition and being captivated by the eyes and skin of elephants.
A natural dying workshop, using rusty nails and tea, inspired me to use the resulting fabrics for this task. After dying vintage fabrics I cut them into small pieces to capture the different grades of colour needed. Black, free motion embroidery highlights the creases in the skin. The tusks are 3D, made by covering wire. The elephant is mounted onto a section of a vintage table cloth with it's original embroidery.
