Koi Fish Casserole by Jonquil Cook

This handmade double-bowled 'casserole' was thrown from stoneware clay and decorated with hand-carved swimming Koi carp. The exterior design involves the scraping away of cobalt oxide coloured slip to reveal the bare clay beneath. I work entirely free-hand on all my pieces, using no stencils or templates. The inside and outside of the bowls are glazed with food-safe high fired glazes, rendering the piece entirely functional, dishwasher and oven-proof.  The piece stands at 21cm and weighs approximately 2 kg.
