This handbuilt vase was made from black stoneware clay and painted with a layer of white slip. The white liquid clay was then allowed to dry before being carved away, by hand, without any stencil or template, to reveal the black clay beneath. This design of wild flowers and grasses is entirely unique, rendering this vase a stand-alone original artwork, as well as a functional object. The vase is glazed inside and out and entirely watertight.
