Gillian Brett

Gillian Brett Artist Profile on Skylark Galleries

Gillian is a figurative sculptor who lives and works in West London.

“Whenever possible I work from life, ideally sculpting real people in the studio with me. I work fast, sketching in clay, without measurement. The resulting textures feel more alive to me than any exact reproduction.

I’m excited by the jeopardy inherent in firing my work to ceramic, often incorporating the unexpected results of the process hopefully celebrating triumph over adversity. In addition to using traditional materials such as bronze and plaster, I am drawn to experimenting with domestic materials such as paper, fabric and have even managed to preserve knitting in porcelain.

I’m often asked to work to commission to capture a loved one for the future. Please contact me directly to discuss commissions. My most recent commission is a statue for public display in Coronation Gardens, Southfields to commemorate Fanny Rollo Wilkinson, the UK’s first female professional landscape designer.

I have exhibited widely, including being selected twice for ING Discerning Eye at the Mall Galleries, short listed for The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and Sculpture award winner for Wales Contemporary. My work is held in private collections in the UK, US and UAE."
