The Friendship Plant by Judy Head

I have three old Friendship plants with stems that wind and twist like an old tree. They originated in China and are known by many names – Chinese Money Plant, UFO and Pancake being just a few of them!  My plants were brought back from China by a missionary many years ago and now live in my studio.   They are fascinating to paint, to see the smooth, round young leaves uncurl and grow like an umbrella on their rough twisted stems.  This sketch was painted during the prolonged period of lock down.

This painting was created on Japanese Washi paper, using  black Sumi ink and coloured minerals.  The Chop mark, placed below the signature, means purity.  It is float mounted, ready for framing.
