A small study of a glorious, old fashioned, red Tea Rose with a fabulous perfume – and substantial thorns! I painted it because it is a joy to paint and they never last very long. I wanted to capture the moment before her glory faded and her petals fell.
The chop is placed under my signature and means Graceful.
I use traditional Japanese brushes, washi paper made from Mulberry leaves, and inks made from soot and coloured minerals. The frame is made from unwaxed Ash and the artwork is float mounted. The frame supports two D rings with picture wire for hanging.
