Bees in the Artichokes

In Norfolk, Globe artichokes grow like wild flowers.  They grow prolifically - tall dramatic stalks bearing enormous silver leaves and topped by the pinkish green petals of the globe fruit.  If left to nature, the petals of the globe open to reveal spiky purple petals of the flower - which attracts enormous numbers of bees!   I completed a number of studies of these amazing plants during the summer of 2024 - this being one of them.

I paint use the traditional Japanese brushes with black Sumi and coloured mineral inks on Washi paper, made from bamboo.   The chop placed below the signature means Dancing Brush
