This handbuilt vase was made from black stoneware clay and painted with a layer of white slip. The white liquid clay was then allowed to dry before being carved away to reveal the black clay beneath: a technique known as sgraffito. The design of wild flowers and grasses is carved freehand by the artist, rendering each piece entirely unique. The vase is glazed inside and out and entirely watertight.
