Gill Hickman was born in 1955 and raised in the sleepy suburb of Bromley, Kent. After studying art at Croydon Art School she became a teacher and expressed her creativity supporting her pupils for twenty years. In 1997 she returned to art full time and now lives and has a studio in Brockley, South East London. She has been the Director of Skylark Galleries South Bank since 1999.
Gill’s work is fundamentally about the human condition and is a reflection of her personal experience of the world. She gains inspiration from textures, patterns and layers in the in the world around her and in the ups and downs of life. Gill often works with simple geometric shapes and forms, choosing quality materials; fine hand-made papers, gold & silver leaf to create her textured pieces. Gill creates blind embossed prints, embossed & embellished collages, works on canvas and more recently Eco light sculptures using recycled glass and leds.
