My small, mixed media works showing at Skylark 2 incorporate found materials from Thames beaches.
Broken glass shards become dewy skies, rusted steel alludes to old mooring posts. Sand and grits held on the picture surface with resin contain fragments of London’s past; oyster shells, ceramics, roof tiles.
I am fascinated by how apparently worthless and discarded material can become valuable, through crafting or the introduction of simple pictorial references. I enjoy the perceptive flip between seeing flat, textured surfaces of mixed material, and an illusory image.
