Diana is a Textile Artist working mainly in free motion embroidery.
Originally a teacher, Diana continued to develop her own skills in ceramics and creative embroidery by attending local adult education classes, acquiring City & Guild qualifications in both these disciplines.
The manipulation of clay and then textiles and stitch stirred up in her a passion to push the boundaries of traditional work and develop the skills she had newly acquired.
Her work over the past few years has focused on the natural cycle of seasonal changes in the English countryside.
She translates this into textiles by layering a variety of fabrics and silk papers, building them up with machine embroidery. Edges of silk paper fall free of the stitched pictures to suggest a continuation of the scene in the viewer’s mind.
“Layering a variety of fabrics and direction of stitch allows me to achieve depth in my work and the viewer to feel that they can enter the landscape.”
Diana is a member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen and exhibits with them in major exhibitions.
