New artists: Colin Ruffell joins Skylark

Artist Colin Ruffell is one of two new arrivals at Skylark Galleries. We welcome him to the group, and look forward to working with him.

Colin was born in London in 1939. Then he was bombed, evacuated, educated, expelled, repatriated, married, qualified and then he taught, until 1965, when he became a professional artist. He describes himself as  “… very thankful, proud, and happy to survive as a full-time artist” for nearly 47 years.

He qualified from two art colleges in painting, design and printmaking, and the Open University in psychology and aesthetics. He has exhibited in England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Sweden, Germany, Holland, USA, Canada, Japan, Venezuela and Australia. He has works in private and corporate collections worldwide. He paints in many styles. Some images are amusing, others are traditional landscapes, and others are modernist abstract relationships of colour, texture and shape. He was elected by the international membership to be the Master of The Fine Art Trade Guild in 2008.

Colin says:  “Thanks for accepting me as a new artist to show in Skylark 1. I actually sold my first painting more than 50 years ago just across the river in an open air show in Temple Gardens.

“Since then I have tried and experienced many ways that artists use to meet and sell to collectors, and this looks like one of the best systems yet. It feels like I’ve come home after a long journey around the art business world.

“It is an exciting prospect to show in an artist run gallery and be part of an established successful community.”

Colin’s work is on sale now at Skylark 1, at Gabriel’s Wharf, on the South Bank, London. Find out more about Colin at
