British figurative artist Stella Tooth has been framed! Her drawing of ‘Allium’ has been turned into a lamp post banner and is now on display in Putney High Street as part of ‘Framed’.
Stella said, “I’m just thrilled my drawing of this structural flower which enlivens gardens with its spherical shape has been selected to be part of this outdoor exhibition of 130 artworks on the borough’s lamp posts.”
Wandsworth Art says on its website, “Centred around the themes of new beginnings and positivity, ‘Framed:’ celebrates the rich diversity of our local arts scene.”
Allium is a genus of monocotyledonous flowering plants that includes garlic and chives. The tall, spherical flowers demand attention. Here Stella has reimagined them red, rather than the usual mauve.

Stella is a British figurative artist who specialises in portraits and performer art. But she often draws inspiration from the natural world. Her training at The Heatherley School of Fine Art in Chelsea – from life – has instilled in her a love of drawing, not just as a preparation for oil painting, but as a way of seeing and reflecting the world around her. Growing up in the 1960s pop art period she seeks to blend illustration and fine art.
