Colin Ruffell’s featured artist exhibition at Skylark Galleries 1, situated in the vibrant Gabriel’s Wharf, Southbank, will run from the 18th May to the 7th June. Colin will be at the gallery on Thurs 21rst May and Thurs 4th June during his exhibition and would welcome the chance to chat with you about his work and inspirations.
Colin’s overview of his experiences with London, one of his main inspirations, gives you a flavour of the vibrancy that comes alive in his paintings and acrylographs.
‘I paint pictures of London. I was born here nearly seventy-six years ago when London was a thriving port and home of a massive international trading nation.
I have watched it change and evolve into a world centre for culture, and many service industries such as insurance and banking. The ships and dockside cranes have gone to be replaced by huge new construction cranes and iconic skyscrapers. The Thames-side warehouses have become restaurants, offices and apartments.
The City of London bustles and thrives with international visitors rubbing shoulders with millionaire bankers. This is an exciting place, steeped in history. I love it and try to paint what it feels like to be here, on the banks of the Thames, in the heart of London.’
